Post Date :   9/29/2005 Glossary Comments Glossary Term :   Qualification Number Definition :   Comment :   In this definition, there is an inaccuracy in the language "Issuance of a Qualification Number indicates that the system is qualified for use in federal elections."  As the standards used by NASED are voluntary, qualification to them is not required for use in a federal election.  Compliance with HAVA is required for a voting system to be used in a federal election after January 1st, 2006, but compliance with the voluntary federal standard or guidelines is not required for a voting system to be used unless it is cited in state election code.  Issuance of a Qualification Number just indicates that the system is qualified against the standard. Proposed change:  Replace the words "for use in federal elections." with the words "to the voting system standard."
