Post Date :   9/29/2005 Section Comments Section :   .20.5.4.2 Page no. :   (Vol 2) Line no.:   Comment :   For the requirement in item (k), "Has no line of code exceeding 80 columns in width (including comments and tab expansions) without justification;", 80 columns are not enough for modern object-oriented development with liberal comments.  This is simply a holdover from earlier times of “dumb terminals” with 80 column screens.  The limit only serves to discourage the use of descriptive variable names, as longer names consume more columns.  A better limit would be 120 columns or 132 columns. Proposed change:  Remove the number "80" and replace it with either "120" or "132".
