If the optical devices communicate through the air, in order to be functional these devices must accept optical radiation from a cone of view (30 degrees for IrDA). As a result, this requirement is meaningless as a method for securing optical wireless devices.   If this requirement is interpreted literally, these communicating devices are no longer operating wireless, but are communicating through a shielded path that connect the devices.
