include the requirement that there be a voter-verified paper trail as an
integral part of any electronic voting system. Without such a
requirement, there is no real way to recount the votes in a close
election nor to uncover fraud built into voting systems. The numerous
irregularities in the 2004 election are evidence that such a paper trail
is essential to restore voters' confidence in the validity and
legitimacy of our election systems. I strongly suggest that a
voter-verified paper trail be a mandatory part of any electronic
election system; without it there is significant risk of fraud and
corruption as there was in the 2004 election. | | |
